The Institute without Boundaries invites you to the 2018-2019 cohort’s Year End Exhibition!
Join us on Thursday, May 30th from 6:00-8:00 pm at the New School of Design, 3 Lower Jarvis Street, for an interactive exhibition showcasing the culmination of the Interdisciplinary Design Strategy students’ research and design outcomes on affordability. Over the past year, the 2018/19 cohort has been tasked with understanding and critiquing our current state of unaffordability, exploring how we might build a more affordable future.
“If unaffordability is a solvable problem, what is preventing us from solving it?”
–
We are living through an affordability crisis. At nearly every income level in every corner of the world, we’re feeling the crunch. As the cost of basic goods and services continue to rise, the topic of affordability is becoming increasingly critical. Growing income inequality, increasingly precarious employment, mass migration, rapid urbanization, technological innovations, and climate change are transforming the way we live. These globally interconnected issues and systems impact us in both negative and positive ways.
We have an opportunity, as human-centred design practitioners, to shape a more humanist and inclusive world. It starts by uncovering how our perceptions of value may be holding us back from building an affordable world and remembering our roots: finding and addressing real human needs, upholding human values, and creating meaningful experiences. Through this exhibition, the current cohort of IwB students will showcase their research, insights, and ideas that demonstrate how we might design a more affordable future.
