Academic
Where can I find your course descriptions?
You can find decriptions of our core courses in the sample curriculum book found here. Please note our course content is adjusted yearly to address the needs of our major projects.
Are there any scholarships, tuition aids, etc?

Are there material costs/additional costs associated to the program?
Your tuition and fees include all tools and materials you need to produce the various projects and exhibits put on the by program during the academic year but does not include expenses such as travel and textbooks. As most years feature some travel for projects, charrettes etc you should budget between $1,000-2,000 for these kind of expenses. Additional costs vary from year to year depending on the nature of the project, please contact us for more information.
I am from out of town. Is there a student residence?

How much does living in Toronto cost?

How many students apply and how many are accepted?
We receive approximately 80 to 100 applications each year and accept 10 to 14 students.
What kind of disciplines are accepted into the program?
This is an interdisciplinary program and we welcome students from various backgrounds depending on the project. We've accepted a range of disciplines including Urban Planning, Business Management, Graphic Design... but also had students from Biology, Women Studies, etc.
What should I include in my portfolio?
You should include a range of work from both academic and professional sectors, if possible. This could be images, writing samples, videos, etc...
What do students do when they leave the program?
Most of our students find interesting work in fields such as design strategy, government policy and project management.
When does the program start/end?
We start at the end of August and finish in the first couple weeks of June.
Can I work and attend the IwB?
Some students have done this, however the program is very demanding and can require long hours. We do not recommend working consistently during the program.
Are there any job opportunities within the college for me while I'm in the program?
There have been work opportunities for students, however it is difficult to keep a regular work schedule during weekdays with this program.
What opportunities are there for industry connections (placements, jobs, events, etc)?
This program introduces students to hundreds of faculty, partners and industry experts. There are continuous networking opportunities and many students have found work through these connections.
What accreditation do I get coming out of the program?
You receive an Ontario College Graduate Certificate.
Charrettes
What is a charrette?
Our charrettes are an intensive, collaborative and creative process that can last 1 to 5 days and generate innovative and feasible ideas quickly and effectively. See our tools for more information.
How can I register to participate in a charrette?
Please sign up to our newsletter or check our upcoming events to stay in the loop about when are charrettes are happening and opportunities to get involved.

How much does it cost to engage the IwB for a charrette?
Charrettes range greatly in size and complexity so cost is dependant on the project. Please contact us to discuss.

What's the difference between studio-based projects and curriculum projects?
Studio projects/ special projects are led by the staff at the IwB though they may include, on occasion, input from our faculty and students. Curriculum projects are part of the students' learning and are associated with specific courses within the program. For more information see What We Do.
